Mälartåg
Mälartåg is the publicly funded regional train service on five lines, under the responsibility of Mälardalstrafik. It is an important part of the historic effort by the regions of Stockholm, Sörmland, Uppsala, Västmanland, Örebro and Östergötland to improve regional rail services in the Stockholm-Mälardalen region.
Mälartåg's five lines
Mälartåg operates five lines:
- Örebro-Eskilstuna-Stockholm-Uppsala
- Norrköping-Nyköping-Stockholm
- Hallsberg-Katrineholm-Stockholm
- Uppsala-Sala-Västerås-Eskilstuna-Norrköping-Linköping
- Uppsala-Tierp-Gävle
Traffic doubled in five years
The investment in Mälartåg includes the purchase of 53 modern double-deckers, which are currently running on all lines. The new trains have also made it possible to increase the number of departures. Between 2016 and 2022, traffic on the Mälaren train lines has doubled. The last major increase in the number of departures took place in December 2021 when twelve new double-deckers entered service. On the Örebro-Eskilstuna-Stockholm-Uppsala route, traffic greatly increased on the popular Stockholm-Uppsala commuter route. On June 12 2002 UL´s regional train service Upptåget with the lines Uppsala-Sala and Uppsala-Gävle was incluced in network with the Mälartåg brand.
