What is Mälardalstrafik?
Mälardalstrafik is the company that operates Mälartåg and Movingo. Mälartåg are the trains that serve and connect the entire Stockholm-Mälardalen region. Movingo is a period ticket valid on our Mälartåg, surrounding local transport, and certain SJ routes.
Previously, there were different apps and websites for various parts of our services. Now, we are simplifying and clarifying things for you as a traveler by gathering everything under Mälardalstrafik:
• A new app called Mälardalstrafik will be launched in April, where you can purchase both Mälartåg single tickets and Movingo period tickets.
• A new website with all information about Mälartåg and Movingo will be launched in late March to early April.
• Mälartåg customer service will change its name to Mälardalstrafik customer service.
Why are these changes being made?
To make traveling in the Stockholm-Mälardalen region smoother for you. You should feel informed and updated throughout your journey. By gathering everything under one name—Mälardalstrafik—it will be easier for you to navigate our services and products.
The app
Will the Movingo app still be available?
For now, you can continue using your Movingo app as usual. Starting in early April, you will be able to purchase your new Movingo ticket in the new Mälardalstrafik app instead. If you forget, you will receive a notification in the Movingo app when it’s time to download the new app.
What will happen to the Mälartåg app?
If you have the Mälartåg app installed on your phone, it will automatically update to the new Mälardalstrafik app in April.
Why are you changing the app?
The new app is an updated and improved version where you can purchase both Mälartåg single tickets and Movingo period tickets. It also includes new features and enhanced travel information.
Previously, we had two separate apps: one for Mälartåg and one for Movingo. Many of our travelers use both apps. Now, you only need one. Everything for traveling in the Stockholm-Mälaren region is gathered in one place—making it easier for our travelers.
New Features in the App.
The new app will be updated throughout the year with several new features, many of which will be available already in April:
• Important information for all travelers: Major travel disruptions and urgent updates will be clearly displayed in the app.
• Real-time travel disruptions for each departure: When searching for a journey, real-time travel disruptions will be displayed. This function already exists for single-ticket purchases but will now be available for all Movingo departures.
• Clearer information on included trains: Movingo travelers will be able to see which trains are covered by their purchased period ticket.
• Secure ticket lending with Bank-ID: Travelers will be able to securely lend their Movingo ticket to someone else, with automatic ticket return at 03:30 every night.
• Push notifications for journeys: Travelers who purchase a single ticket for a specific departure will receive push notifications with updates and travel disruptions before and during the journey. This feature has been available since fall 2024.
Upcoming Features
Within the next six months, further improvements to travel information are planned, such as:
• Departure subscriptions: Mark specific departures as favorites and receive push notifications about changes, such as delays or platform changes—perfect for commuters traveling at the same times daily.
• Real-time train board: Search for a route, departure, or specific train to get up-to-date times and possible disruptions, similar to the station boards from Trafikverket.
• Follow a journey: Track someone else’s train journey in real-time—perfect for keeping an eye on a friend’s, colleague’s, or family member’s trip.
The website
Will I still be able to buy my Movingo ticket online?
Yes, on the new website, you will be able to purchase your Movingo ticket and find all the information you need for traveling with Movingo. Until then, you can continue purchasing it as usual on mälartåg.se.
What will happen to mälartåg.se?
In April, the mälartåg.se website will be discontinued, and visitors will be redirected to our new website, mälardalstrafik.se. The new website will contain everything related to Mälartåg and Movingo—you will be able to search, buy tickets, and get travel information all in one place. You will also find information about Mälardalstrafik’s operations.
My Movingo ticket
What will happen to my Movingo ticket?
Your Movingo ticket will remain in the Movingo app, and you can continue traveling as usual. Starting in early April, you will also be able to purchase your Movingo ticket in the new Mälardalstrafik app. This will also give you access to improvements, such as enhanced travel information. You will receive notifications in the Movingo app when it’s time to purchase your new ticket in the Mälardalstrafik app.
Can I still lend my Movingo ticket?
Yes, you can continue lending your Movingo ticket in the new app. The function will be improved and more secure. For example, the ticket will automatically return to the lender at 03:30 AM each day.
Can I transfer my valid Movingo ticket from the Movingo app to the new Mälardalstrafik app?
No, they are two different systems, and you cannot transfer your ticket between the two apps. You can continue traveling with your valid ticket in the Movingo app. When it’s time to purchase a new Movingo ticket, you can create a Mitt Konto (My Account) and buy it in the Mälardalstrafik app.
There is no risk of the Movingo app shutting down before your valid ticket expires. If you have an annual ticket that is valid into fall/winter, you will receive assistance transferring it to the new app after the summer.
