Maintenance and improvement work on the railways in the Stockholm-Mälardalen region may result in parts of the railway network being fully or partially closed during different periods. Here, we list the major track works that will affect Mälartåg's train traffic in the future

The railways in Stockholm-Mälardalen are continuously being maintained and improved. This means that parts of the railway network periodically need to be completely, or partially shut down.

The information about planned track work is preliminary, exactly how the trains will run during this time is determined in more detail closer to that period. 

Search your trip in the app Mälardalstrafik and on Mälardalstrafik.se to see the updated timetable.

Please note that travel time may be longer than usual when trains are replaced by buses.


September

Katrineholm–Gnesta/Flen

Period: 4–6 September

Affected lines:

  • Hallsberg–Katrineholm–Stockholm
  • Linköping–Eskilstuna–Västerås–Uppsala

The track work on the section between Flen and Katrineholm will take place from Friday 4 September at 10:00 pm until Sunday 6 September at 2:00 pm.

Hallsberg–Katrineholm–Stockholm: Train services will be replaced by buses between Katrineholm and Gnesta. Please allow for longer waiting times in Katrineholm when transferring between trains and buses. Some services will be replaced by buses between Hallsberg and Södertälje Syd. Search for your journey in the app or here on the website to see how your journey is affected.

Linköping–Eskilstuna–Västerås–Uppsala: Train services will operate as planned between Linköping and Katrineholm, with a transfer to a bus between Katrineholm and Flen, followed by a connecting train towards Eskilstuna and Uppsala. Some train services will be replaced by buses between Linköping and Eskilstuna. Please allow for longer journey times and changes to departure times.

Hallsberg–Gnesta

Period: 25–28 September

Affected lines:

  • Hallsberg–Katrineholm–Stockholm
  • Linköping–Eskilstuna–Västerås–Uppsala

The planned track work will take place from Friday 25 September at 10:00 pm until Monday 28 September at 5:00 am.

Hallsberg–Katrineholm–Stockholm: Trains will be replaced by buses between Hallsberg and Gnesta.

Linköping–Eskilstuna–Västerås–Uppsala: Regular train services will operate, with a transfer to a bus for the section between Flen and Katrineholm. Please allow for longer journey times and changes to departure times.


October

Hallsberg–Gnesta

Period: 9–12 October

Affected lines:

  • Hallsberg–Katrineholm–Stockholm
  • Linköping–Eskilstuna–Västerås–Uppsala

The planned track work will take place from Friday 9 October at 10:00 pm until Monday 12 October at 5:00 am.

Hallsberg–Katrineholm–Stockholm: Trains will be replaced by buses between Hallsberg and Gnesta.

Linköping–Eskilstuna–Västerås–Uppsala: Regular train services will operate, with a transfer to a bus for the section between Flen and Katrineholm. Please allow for longer journey times and changes to departure times.


November

Södertälje Syd–Gnesta

Södertälje Syd–Vagnhärad

Period: 6–8 November

Affected lines:

  • Hallsberg–Katrineholm–Stockholm
  • Norrköping–Nyköping–Stockholm

Train services will be replaced by buses from Friday 6 November at 22:00 until Sunday 8 November at 14:00 on the Södertälje Syd–Gnesta and Södertälje Syd–Vagnhärad sections.
