Camera surveillance on board

Transdev operates Mälartåg on behalf of Mälardalstrafik. Mälartåg is under camera surveillance with fixed vehicle cameras that record video footage. The footage is stored for only 72 hours.

When you travel with Mälartåg, Mälardalstrafik AB may process your personal data. A prerequisite for data to be considered personal is that you can be identified in the footage. Mälardalstrafik AB is responsible for all processing of these personal data.

We encourage you to read this information carefully. If you have any questions about how your personal data is handled, you are welcome to contact us. Our contact details can be found further down in this information.

Purpose

The purpose of camera surveillance is to enhance the safety and security of passengers and staff and to reduce the number of threats and violent incidents.

Legal Basis

All processing of personal data must have a legal basis under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We process your personal data (collection and storage) based on a legitimate interest, as we have a justified reason to process your personal data for crime prevention purposes.

When we disclose personal data to the police, we do so in cases where we have a legal obligation, such as when the police have initiated a preliminary investigation. In certain cases, we also disclose personal data to the police based on a legitimate interest, for example, in connection with a crime report or when the police are searching for missing persons.

Storage and Deletion

The recorded footage is stored in an encrypted format on secure devices. If the material is transferred to the police, it is then deleted.

All footage that is not handed over to the police is continuously overwritten or erased.

Sharing of Personal Data

Region Sörmland, organization number 232100-0032 (Mälardalstrafik Customer Service), handles police requests for surveillance footage.

The operation of camera surveillance is managed by a service provider acting as a data processor on behalf of Mälardalstrafik.

Only authorized employees at Mälardalstrafik and our service providers and representatives have access to your personal data. Your data is shared only with the service providers and representatives we use to deliver our services. We do not disclose your personal data to other recipients unless required by law, regulation, or government decision.

Our service providers only process personal data on our behalf, following our documented instructions.

If You Have Been a Victim of a Crime

If you have been a victim of a crime onboard our trains, you should file a police report immediately so that the police can quickly request recorded footage. This must be done within 24 hours of the incident; otherwise, there is a risk that the footage will be deleted.
