Traveling with children
Here you’ll find everything you need to know about travelling with children on Mälartåg. From the rules for accompanying children to how to handle strollers on board.
Accompanying children
You can always bring up to two children aged 6 and under free of charge when travelling with Mälartåg, regardless of travel class. This means you don’t need to purchase separate tickets for accompanying children (0–6 years). However, if you are travelling with more than two children per paying passenger, you will need to buy a youth ticket for the additional children.
Traveling alone
Children up to 6 years old are not allowed to travel alone on our trains. For older children, it is up to the guardian to assess whether the child can travel independently. Children traveling without an adult must be able to take care of themselves throughout the journey, including in case of travel disruptions.
Onboard the train
On the train, there are spaces to store strollers, larger luggage, as well as a large toilet with a changing table and a smaller toilet.
Strollers
Strollers should be placed in the Flex car. If the designated area is already full, you can, space permitting, place the stroller in the vestibule of the same carriage. In other carriages, there is space for a folded stroller under the luggage racks on the lower levels. If requested by onboard staff, strollers must be folded and stored in the designated area.
